Do I need an Australian driving license to rent a car in Albany?
The Driver must (i) hold a full, current and valid driving licence (not being a learners licence or provisional licence), (ii) have an International Driving Permit (IDP) or official translation (if a licence is not in Roman alphabet), (iii) have held their licence for minimum 12 consecutive months immediately prior to signing the Rental Agreement.
An International Driving Permit is not a stand-alone document and this must be carried with your valid domestic driving licence for it to be valid.
Digital drivers licences are only accepted in the issuing state. If you're travelling interstate you must present a physical (plastic) drivers licence.
What is the age requirement to rent a car in Albany?
The minimum age to drive a vehicle with Avis is 21 years of age. All drivers must hold a current, full and valid driver's licence, that has been valid for a minimum of 12 consecutive months. A young driver surcharge may apply.
What are you supposed to do before you return a rental car in Albany?
When you return your rental car to Avis, you must do so with a full tank of fuel. We also ask that you remove all your personal belongings from the vehicle. Finally, please return the car to us in a clean state, ready for the next customer to drive.
Can I return a car to the Albany location before or after business hours?

Do I get a refund if I return my rental car early?
If you return the vehicle before the original return date (early return), you will not be refunded any portion of your payment. This does not detract from your rights as a consumer under applicable consumer protection legislation, including the Australian Consumer Law.
Can I rent a car from Albany and return it to a different location?

Driving in Albany
Those in search of car hire at Albany airport will find the Avis branch just off the Albany Highway. Head south on the highway for Albany itself, or head north in the direction of Perth. The closest petrol station is southeast along the highway in the direction of Albany, and there are plenty more in the town itself. Speed limits in Albany are the same as elsewhere across Western Australia. There is a default limit of 50 km/h in built-up areas, but this will be reduced to 40 km/h if there is lots of pedestrian activity nearby, like outside a school or shopping centre. On the freeway, the limit may rise to 100 km/h. Remain aware of local speed limits, as these may change, and obey the rules of the road at all times.

The location of Albany as a huge natural harbour makes this a very interesting place to visit. For centuries, this was an important maritime hub, and you can take a look into this history at the Historic Whaling Station, in the Western Australian Museum, and at Old Farm Strawberry Hill.
Don't forget to spend some time checking out the Marina and hiking around the bay. Two People's Bay Nature Reserve also makes for a lovely excursion. All in all, Albany is somewhere that should feature on the itineraries of all visitors to this part of Western Australia.
