Explore Your Backyard: WA Roadtrips | Avis Car Rental

As lockdown measures begin to ease in Western Australia, new statistics suggest that most of us are well on our way to rediscovering our wanderlust. Data from Avis Australia revealed a 156% increase in domestic demand for rental car bookings compared to the start of Australia’s lockdown period. And with international border restrictions still in place, it is more than likely that this year will be focused on (safely) hitting the road to go exploring – rather than hitting up the airport.

For those looking to get back on the road, Avis Australia has launched its Avis Safety Pledge, which sets out the relentless commitment to keep every one of its customers and employees safe. Customers can also book with confidence this Winter as Avis Australia will waiver all cancellation fees for bookings before 1st September 2020.

To inspire drivers looking forward to getting behind the wheel, Avis Australia has pulled together its top drives across Western Australia, with must-see stop offs along the way and fun activities to truly immerse yourself in the adventure that can be had in our own backyard.

Dunsborough to Margaret River

While Margaret River is famous for its large variety of beautiful wineries, it also has much to offer beyond the vine. On the trip from Dunsborough to Margaret River, there are incredible natural attractions just waiting to be explored, including Sugarloaf Rock and Canal Rocks.

Albany

Water lovers will be thrilled at the wealth of jaw-dropping beaches and the unique ocean wildlife experiences on offer in the surrounding locations of Albany. Approximately 30 minutes’ drive from Margaret River on the way to Albany is Hamelin Bay, a beautiful beach filled with very friendly stingrays. Other stunning waterside locations include Greens Pool, Waterfall Beach, or Misery Beach, all of which will see you anything but miserable.

Esperance

Esperance is an absolute must-see when visiting Western Australia. Its famous white beaches and crystal-clear turquoise waters are even more incredible to experience in person. Fantastic stop offs include Two Peoples Bay or Little Beach, both on the way to Esperance from Albany. Once you arrive, the Great Ocean Drive in Esperance will certainly not disappoint.

Hyden

Hyden is home to the iconic Wave Rock – a unique natural formation that is an impressive 15 meters tall and 110 meters long. Despite looking like an ocean wave, travelling to this world-famous inland feature will treat you to a variety of stunning scenic views – none of which involve the sea. The surrounding walking trails will take you past additional natural marvels such as the creatively-named Hippos Yawn rock formation, Lake Magic and the salt flats, as well as Mulka’s Cave where you can learn the legend of Mulka and see ancient Indigenous art.
