Drop Box Available: If the customer chooses to leave the vehicle, the customer is responsible for the vehicle & all charges (including any damages or theft of the vehicle may have incurred during after hours) until the contract can be closed on the following business day.

Drop Box NOT Available: If the location does not have a key drop box, the location does not permit vehicles to be left after closing hours. The customer should never lock or leave the keys inside the car. The customer is responsible for the vehicle & all charges (including any damages to or theft of the vehicle and locksmith fees if they choose to lock the keys in the car). The customer can either choose to return the car the next day the location is open OR change the Drop Off Location to the nearest Regional Airport. Damage Insurance (CDI)

In most cases, Damage Insurance is provided with the vehicle as standard. If it is included, it will be stated on your Rental Agreement Form (and in your booking confirmation).

Damage Insurance reduces the excess amount you pay for each separate incident of damage if the vehicle is damaged during the rental.

The amount you pay for each clearly separate incident of damage will be the lower of a) the applicable cost payable
plus loss of use and administration cost or b) the excess stated on your Rental Agreement Form.

CDI/TPI are always offered together in Norway. Therefore, cannot be sold separately.

Normally between 110.00 NOK and 300.00 NOK per day (if not included as standard).


Super Damage Insurance (SCDI, Super Collision Damage Insurance and Windscreen)
An excess reduction product which reduces your damage waiver excess to zero (or, if higher, the amount shown on your Rental Agreement Form).

Super Collision Damage Insurance and windscreen (SCDI) is not available to reduce your excess to 0 on certain car groups.

SCDI is always sold as part of a package in Norway, therefore is not able to be sold separately

Normally between 320,00 NOK and 557,00*NOK per day.

Theft Protection Insurance (TPI, Theft Protection Insurance)

In most cases, Theft Protection Insurance is provided with the vehicle as standard. If it is included, it will be stated on your Rental Agreement Form (and in your booking confirmation).

Theft Protection waiver reduces the amount you pay if the vehicle is stolen during the rental period.
This does no cover theft of the rental car where the key has been used.

TPI is always sold as part of a package in Norway, therefore is not able to be sold separately.

Normally between 40.00 NOK and 70.00 NOK per day (if not included as standard).

Super Theft Protection (STPI)

An excess reduction product which reduces your theft protection excess to zero. The excess will show on your rental agreement.

SCDI/STPI is always sold as part of a package in Norway, therefore is not able to be sold separately.

Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)

Covers the driver of the vehicle and personal items in the vehicle in the event of an accident. Personal Accident Insurance provides the following benefits:

  •  Death compensation NOK 500,000.00
  •  Medical/dental treatment expenses NOK 25,000.00
  •  Luggage insurance - total in the car up to NOK 30,000.00
  •  Rescue and assistance - most affordable option


The deductible that is deducted from each payment is NOK 1,000.00.

Personal Accident Insurance is underwritten by Tryg Forsikring AS. You will need to agree to their terms and conditions.

Super Personal Accident Insurance (SPAI)

Provides the following enhanced benefits:

What payment cards do you accept?
We accept:

  • American Express (excluding American Express Travellers Cheque cards)

We do not accept Visa Electron cards, Maestro cards, Cirrus cards, JCB cards, any pre-paid cards, even if they carry the Visa or MasterCard logo or any other cards not listed above.

We do not accept Digital Payment Cards.

Can I pay by cash?

Payments with cash are not possible when collecting the vehicle.

 

What happens if I am late in making payment?
If you are late in paying us, interest will be calculated at least 8 % per year above the base lending rate of Norges Bank from time to time.

 

 

How much is the pre-authorisation?

The amount of the pre-authorisation is calculated based on:The amount of the pre-authorisation taken on pick-up of the rental vehicle is calculated as follows:
(The vehicle rental price* + GBP 300 (or if applicable, the equivalent amount in your local currency) MINUS (Any sum you have already paid when making a "Pay Now" booking)

* The "vehicle rental price" includes the vehicle rental cost and all optional extras you've requested, calculated at the start of the rental based on the intended length of the rental. For the avoidance of any doubt, any "Pay at Location" amount you owe in relation to the vehicle rental (including any optional extras) will be included as part of the pre-authorisation and will be charged to you at the end of the rental (using the card provided for the purposes of the pre-authorisation, unless agreed otherwise).

** If you buy our "Fuel Up Front" product, we will reduce the GBP 300 (or if applicable, the equivalent amount in your local currency) by the amount we charge you for the "Fuel Up Front" product

The GBP 300 (or if applicable, the equivalent amount in your local currency) is included as part of the pre-authorisation in case we have to charge you at the end of the rental for any of the following:
i. costs to refuel or recharge the vehicle (where relevant);
ii. additional rental charges in circumstances where you fail to return the vehicle or keys or any optional extras at the end of the agreed rental period (or to the agreed return location);
iii. any additional charges or fines you incur relating to your use of the vehicle (which we have been notified of prior to you returning the vehicle, which will include, for example, charges relating to traffic violations); and/or
iv. costs incurred as a result of exceeding any relevant mileage restrictions.

Where the pre-authorisation we take does not cover the charges you incur, we will request you make a further payment for the additional amounts owed.

In relation to certain high value vehicles, we may require you to provide us with two payment cards for the purposes of the pre-authorisation. Where this is the case, this will be confirmed when making a booking.

Drivers License

Driving Licences

Requirement to bring a valid driving licence with you

In Norway, all drivers must bring their valid driving licence with them.

If any of the following applies:

  • their driving licence was issued in Europe, 
  • their driving licence was issued in a non-European country or,
  • their driving licence was issued in a non-roman alphabet language like Arabic, Greek, Russian, Hebrew or Japanese,

and we cannot confirm with certainty the details included within the driving licence, the driver will also need to provide either an international driving licence or an official English translation, by a notary, of their driving licence. If this might apply to you, please contact us (prior to your pick up date) as we would be pleased to confirm if an international licence or official translation will be required. 

 


Digital Driver's Licence - Norway

Avis Norway accepts the Norwegian digital driver's licence ("Førerkort-appen") issued through the official Statens Vegvesen application (vegvesen.no), subject to the following conditions:

Eligibility and Validity
The digital driver's licence is accepted only for rentals within Norway and is not valid for cross-border travel. The licence holder must be a Norwegian resident at the time of rental. The digital driver's licence serves as proof of driving entitlement only and does not constitute proof of identity. Avis reserves the right to request additional identification.

Verification Requirements

At the time of vehicle collection, the driver must:

  1. Open the Statens Vegvesen application in the presence of an Avis or Budget employee.
  2. Display the licence screen to the agent, who will verify that the on-screen imagery is live (not a static image) and that the "Last updated" timestamp corresponds with the date and time of collection.

If the driver cannot complete verification or present either a valid digital or physical driver's licence, the rental will be refused.

Additional Drivers

For All additional drivers a valid driving license must be presented at the rental desk. A digital driving licence is only accepted for additional drivers if they are present at the time of picking up the vehicle.

 

Avis reserves the right to verify the status of any driver's licence through Statens Vegvesen at any time. 


 Minimum licence requirements 

All drivers must have held their licences for at least 1 year from the date of pick-up. A higher minimum age limit and licence validity may apply for certain vehicles. This will be shown during the booking process or disclosed to you before completing the booking.

If a licence does not show the driver has held it for the minimum period, then they must provide evidence, such as: 

  • previous driving licences; or
  • a letter from their driving licence authority stating that they have held it for this minimum period.

 

Temporary drivers Licenses issued in Norway with an official stamp from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, if fitting the above minimum licence requirements, are acceptable only for driving in Norway. However, the validity of this temporary license is not guaranteed by us if you are stopped by the police during your rental. 


Public Liability and Property Damage

Public liability insurance is in accordance with the insurance laws of the country.  Customer may inquire at the time of rental for additional information of the benefits, conditions and acceptance.

Note: Some credit cards provide insurance coverage, with certain limitations, as a benefit of using the card to rent vehicles.  The customer is advised to contact the card issuer before the rental.  Any waiver must be discussed directly with the location upon arrival.


Additional Fees

Within Norway there are certain areas which have congestion charging zones. This means you need to pay a fee if you wish to drive in certain areas on certain days and during certain times. In addition, there are toll roads and toll bridges which require you to pay a fee if you wish to use them. We recommend you pay these in advance where possible in order to ensure you will not incur a fine.

We recommend you check the Internet to find out about any restricted areas before you travel. Websites such as www.autopass.no/en/autopass provide useful information. If the rental location is in or near a restricted area, we will tell you about it when you pick up the vehicle. We are unable to tell you about any other restricted areas.

If a fine or charge is sent to us because you haven't paid a charge or complied with the law, we will take payment for:

  • Our administration fee of NOK 150.00 for each fine or charge issued in Norway to cover our costs of dealing with the fine or charge; or
  • Our administration fee of between EUR 24.00 and EUR 45.00 for each fine or charge issued in any other country (which will be charged in the currency of the country where the fine occurred)
  • the actual amount of the fine or charge imposed if we have to pay it.

 

Keeping the vehicle interior clean

Please note the following:

  • You are not permitted to smoke in your rental vehicle. If we believe that anyone has smoked in the vehicle during the rental period, a specialist cleaning charge will apply of up to NOK 3750.00.
  • If the interior of the vehicle is especially muddy, dirty, stained, full of animal hair or smelly, and our standard cleaning procedure will not fix it, you will be charged a specialist cleaning charge of up to NOK 3750.00.

 

No Show/Cancellation: If you fail to rent and do not cancel your passenger car reservation there will be a fee of  NOK 750.
You must cancel your van reservation at least 7 days prior to the rental to avoid a fee of 50% of estimated rental charges. If you fail to cancel your van reservation we will charge the entire amount of estimated rental charges.

Outside Office Hours: A fee will apply for rentals outside office hours or when the location is closed. 
Airport locations require flight number and arrival time.

  •   Up to midnight and after 6:00am: 320.00 NOK plus tax.
    • Sundays: 480.00 NOK plus tax.
    • Holidays: 750.00 NOK plus tax.
  • Between Midnight and 6:00 a.m. fee: 640.00 NOK plus tax.
    • Sundays: 800.00 NOK plus tax.
    • Holidays: 920.00 NOK plus tax. 


Additional Information

Drivers License:
A valid driving license from the renter's country of residence must be presented in person at the time of rental
This license must have been held for at least one year prior to the rental pick-up date.
local driving license must also be obtained at the time of vehicle pick up by drivers renting groups L and P (passenger van and truck).
Customer must contact the counter directly for the special requirements and reservations involving rental of groups L and P (passenger vans and truck).
Drivers should be prepared to pay for any required additional documentation at the time of issue.
All forms of documentation must be issued to the same person, in the same name, and presented together at the time of rental. 


Age Requirements

Minimum driver age restrictions

When you book, you'll be told if there are any minimum age restrictions for the vehicle you request. If you're not sure, please check your booking confirmation email.

You need to be at least 19 years old to hire and drive most of our vehicles.

Young driver surcharge


If you or any of your drivers are under 25 when you pick up the vehicle, you will each have to pay a young driver surcharge. The cost of a young driver surcharge will be built into the price confirmed at booking stage.
If you add an additional driver onto the rental at pick up, you may be charged a young driver surcharge (you will be asked to agree to this) and is likely to be NOK 130,00 per day, per driver.
If you rent the vehicle for more than 10 days, you'll only be charged for a maximum of 10 days and get cover for the duration of the rental up to 31 days.

Maximum driver age restrictions


When you book, you'll be told if there are any maximum age restrictions for the vehicle you request. If you're not sure, please check your booking confirmation email or call the reservations team.

In most cases there is no maximum driver age restriction. If you are renting with one of our affiliates listed in 1. (Rental Provider) there may be a maximum driver age set for insurance reasons.

Non-cancellation fee: 645.00 NKR


Estimated Totals

Approximate total includes base rate, taxes, and surcharges. Items such as coupon discounts, child safety seats, winterization fee from 01Nov - 30Apr and gas are NOT included in the estimated total. Optional coverages and one-way fees are subject to tax in certain locations. This tax is not reflected in the Estimated Total.

Estimated total is subject to change based upon exchange rates at the time of rental.

ID requirements

Do I need to bring proof of identification?
Yes, you must bring:

  • the payment card that was used to make your booking.  For some vehicles, two payment cards in your name will be required.  One of these must be the payment card used to make your booking.
  • photo ID featuring a recognisable photo taken in the last 10 years. We will accept your passport or driving licence if it contains a photo, a national identity card or any other form of government-issued identification. 

You may also need to bring proof of where you live.  This could include a recent utility bill or bank statement.  If your driving licence shows your address, we will accept it as proof of your address.

Other requirements

Will I need to give a pre-authorisation?
Yes, you must give us a pre-authorisation on your payment card before we release the vehicle to you. A pre-authorisation holds money in your account. 

What do I need to do to give a pre-authorisation?
You will need to give us a payment card in your own name that has enough money available on it. 

How much is the pre-authorisation?

The amount of the pre-authorisation taken on pick-up of the rental vehicle is calculated as follows:

Returns

The General Conditions provide more information about what happens if you want to extend your rental, or if you do not return the vehicle to us as agreed.

The late return processing fee is up to NOK 150.00 per day.


Travel Into Other Countries

International travel outside Norway is permitted to certain countries but requires prior approval from the Budget rental station from which you collected the vehicle.

If you plan to drive outside of Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland, you will be charged a cross border fee of NOK 300.00 per day. If you rent the vehicle for more than 10 days, you will be charged for a maximum of 10 days per rental, which can last up to 31 days.

The fee for driving within Scandinavia to Sweden, Denmark or Finland is NOK 350.00 per rental, which can last up to 31 days.
You may only use the vehicle in the following countries:

  • Austria (A)

  • Belgium (B)

  • Germany (D)
  • Denmark (DK)
  • Spain (E) only mainland
  • France (F) only mainland

It is prohibited to drive our vehicles into Albania (AL), Azerbaijan (AZ), Bulgaria (BG), Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIH), Faroe Islands (FO), Greenland (GG) Belarus (BY), Cyprus (CY) , Estonia (EST), Georgia (GE), Greece (GR), Iceland (IS), Kazakhstan (KZ), Kosovo (RKS), Latvia (LV), Lithuania (LT), Malta (M), North Macedonia (MK), Moldova (MD), Montenegro (MNE), Romania (RO), Russia (RUS), Serbia (SRB), Turkey (TR), Ukraine (UA) and any country outside continental Europe.

 


Budget reserves the right to claim compensation for any damage resulting from a breach of the above provisions.

If it comes to our attention that the vehicle has been driven in an unpermitted country, you can risk being fined up to NOK 50 000.00. 

Please note that if you are permitted to take the vehicle outside of Norway it is your responsibility to make sure you comply with legal requirements applicable in the relevant country/countries you travel in.
