Things to Do in Maroochydore
Most people come to the Sunshine Coast for the beaches, so Maroochydore Beach is one of the city’s biggest draws. The golden sand stretches from Cotton Tree to Alexandra Headland, and makes for nice walks with plenty of shops and cafes close by. The surf is calm and life guards patrol the beach, so it’s safe for kids. The Cotton Tree Aquatic Centre is another good swimming spot, and includes a kids’ water park.
It’s worth taking a walk over the bridge to Chambers Island, which has its own beach and is much quieter than the mainland. There’s a kids’ playground here too, and it’s a nice spot for a picnic.
Maroochydore Rotary Park runs alongside the beach, next to the river, and is a pleasant place to while away a few hours with walking paths and a children’s play park.
The SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast Aquarium is just down the coast a few km in Mooloolaba, and has lots of underwater tunnels to explore and interesting exhibits.
To the north, close to the airport, you’ll find Bli Bli Watersports Complex, which promises watersports and fun for the whole family, and Sunshine Castle – Australia’s biggest castle that is fun to explore and hosts lots of kids’ activities too.
Maroochydore is the Sunshine Coast’s main retail centre, in particular the Sunshine Plaza, which has everything you need including hundreds of shops, a great food court, and a cinema. If you want to shop, it’s also worth checking out the Cotton Tree Markets for some locally made products.
