At Avis Sydney Airport the minimum age is 21. Drivers aged 21-24 are limited to renting only car groups X,A,B,C,D. A young driver surcharge per day, per driver applies for drivers aged 21-24, regardless of the length of the rental.
Avis Australia accepts Avis Charge Cards, American Express, Diners Club, Mastercard, Visa.
Note that the acceptance of Debit Cards is done so provided that the card displays the Visa or Mastercard logo, has been issued by a bank and has the customer's name and card number on the card.
Note: Full rental charges must be available in debit card funds at the time of rental. A hold will be placed on your account for this amount.
Upon returning the vehicle, Avis will process a release of the unused portion of the hold subject to your Bank's procedures.
Please be advised that the hold may take up to 2 weeks to be released by your bank.
If you fail to return the vehicle as agreed, Avis will obtain additional authorizations from your account to cover the rental charges.
Avis is not responsible for any returned checks or over-drafts based on this policy.
Note: Prepaid Debit/Gift cards are not acceptable methods of credit identification to pick up a car at any location. One of the above mentioned cards must be presented. Prepaid Debit/Gift cards are accepted at time of return only.
At time of pick up, driver must present a valid driving license from the renter's country of residence. This license must represent legally authorized, uninterrupted driving privileges in the country of residence for at least one year immediately prior to the rental pick-up date. All forms of documentation must be issued to the same person, in the same name, and presented together at the time of rental. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is also required unless renter's national license is printed in English. An International Driving Permit (IDP) serves only as a translation of a driver's existing license, and by itself is not acceptable for vehicle rental.
Some rental options,protections/coverages or additional fees/surcharges are subject to tax in certain locations and may not be reflected in the Estimated Total.

Vehicles are not permitted to leave Australia
You and any Authorized Driver must not, unless authorized in writing by Avis, drive or take the Vehicle
(a) to Gove Peninsula or any island off the coast of Australia (including, but not limited to, Kangaroo Island,
Bruny Island, Fraser Island, Magnetic Island, Groote Eylandt or the Tiwi Islands);
(b) into or out of the Northern Territory, Western Australia or Tasmania;
(c) in Queensland:
(1) on Highway No.27: beyond Chillagoe in a Westerly direction;
(2) on Highway No.1: beyond Normanton in a Southerly, direction and no further North than Karumba;
(3) if the Vehicle is a passenger vehicle or truck, beyond Cooktown to the North or Lakeland to the
West and no further North than Cape Tribulation on the Coast Road; or
(4) on the Coast Road from Helenvale to Cape Tribulation, or from Laura to Lakeland, unless the
Vehicle is a 4 wheel drive vehicle;
(d) above the snow line in Tasmania, New South Wales and Victoria (being Jindabyne in New South Wales
and Bright in Victoria) from the beginning of June until the end of September;
(e) on beaches or through streams, dams, rivers or flood waters;
(f) in Western Australia, to any parts North of Carnarvon or
(g) in the Northern Territory, on the Jim Jim Falls Road to Jim Jim Falls and Twin Falls.
