AVIS UPGRADES WHERE2® GPS DEVICE WITH FLIGHT STATUS FEATURE PROVIDED BY MSN® DIRECT
PARSIPPANY, N.J., May 4, 2009 - Avis Rent A Car today unveiled the latest enhancement to where2®, the Company's portable Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation device. Avis where2 renters can now input their flight number or a time range into their GPS unit and receive up-to-date departure and arrival times, provided by MSN® Direct. There is no additional cost for this feature.
"Avis is committed to making travel convenient and enjoyable," said Tom Gartland, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Avis Budget Group, parent company of Avis Rent A Car. "The where2 flight information feature brings another level of convenience to the rental experience so that customers can truly maximize their time at a destination whether for business or leisure."
Avis where2, based on Garmin's nüvi 780 model, features a large, high-brightness display screen, a simple user interface, turn-by-turn directions spoken in more than 40 languages and added services such as Smart Traffic, weather reports, stock quotes, news headlines, local events, Amber Alerts and movie listings provided by MSN Direct. With Smart Traffic, customers can access road speed and flow information, construction warnings and receive recommended alternate routes to help reduce travel time, save on fuel and increase productivity. Avis where2 also offers Bluetooth hands-free calling capability, three-dimensional maps and MP3 audio playback capability.
Avis customers can save even more time by programming destination information for their where2 units onto a Secure Digital (SD) memory card prior to leaving for their trip. To use this feature, customers must first download a plug-in application for their personal computer or laptop from www.avis.com/mywhere2, and then follow the instructions to store addresses of places they want to visit to their SD card. When the customer picks up their rental vehicle and where2 unit, the SD card can be inserted into the GPS device, which will then have all of the addresses stored and ready to access at any time during the trip. Travel destination data can be downloaded onto the card from any Web site to make using where2 even more simple and convenient.
